So, I recently went to see a Little Shop production done by the school my sister teaches at. It was really good ! But one thing caught me off guard…

Arthur Denton…having a whole SONG?!!? And it looks like it was meant to take place a few songs after Orin died…

Sadly, though, the song was never performed (and Arthur never even appeared in the production) despite this being in the playbill. I was a bit disappointed, but thought “surely this is on the internet, at the very least there’s a reddit post about it or something, right?”

Nope!

Absolutely nothing!!! I couldn’t find any videos or posts that had anything to do with this song.

If any of you out there know ANYTHING about this, please tell! Until then…this shall remain a mystery…

In Amy Levy's Reuben Sachs, you've got:

The community that is at once fully part of the modern world while having an insular nature (and the amount of modern vs. insular varies based on the person and family)

The people who ignore their religion 99% of the year, but wouldn't even consider skipping services on the important holidays

The ultra-traditionalists who go so intense on holding to traditions that a lot of other members of their religion side-eye them

The kids who go to services only because their parents force them to, or who rebel and refuse to go because they don't see the point or don't believe in God

The new convert who is more zealous than, like, 90% of the people who were born into this religion

A family with its very specific blend of religious opinions and inside jokes that's fully aware that they're baffling to outsiders

This book was apparently meant to be a realistic portrait of Jewish life (in response to Daniel Deronda and its (according to Levy) highly unrealistic and over-idealized portrayal of Jews), and my goodness, did she succeed in capturing what it's like to live in a culturally religious community in a rapidly secularizing world.

lately ive been thinking about the contrast going on in Early Lime where hes like "tbh im pretty sure i could have any girl i wanted including mochi i mean i guess if she wanted we could give it a shot one day but i dont really care lol" and then very easily becoming completely unhinged for her the second he gets a tinge of romantic affection

horror would bite the inside of his mouth because he doesn't eat but also he likes the feeling of chewing the flesh and it's like a placebo hunger thing. if he eats a tiny bit of his mouth he won't feel as hungry (this doesn't really make sense because he's a skeleton but just pretend that he's chewing on his ecto or something)

when horror brushes his teeth there would be blood because he hasn't brushed in so long that his mouth isn't used to the bristles of a toothbrush. and then he goes back in for more teeth cleaning rounds with the toothbrush until his minty clean spit comes out without any blood

similar to the first one but horror would chew and bite on his nails. he'd bite the nails and sometimes cut them off with his teeth and then chew on them in his mouth for that same placebo hunger effect. if he's feeling silly he'll swallow the nail (self cannibalism???)

god i had THE BEST TIME AT THE DENTIST TODAY and i feel completely unhinnnnngèd for saying that bc i never in a million years thought the dentist could be FUN but the hygienist was french and switched to french as soon as i mentioned that i had taken french and i understood almost everything he said to me and it felt so good!!! i never understand french!! things are paying off!!!! also i do super recommend this method of conversing in a language you are not super confident in, like it's not just a coincidence i had such a good time doing this at the dentist specifically, it was good precisely because there was very little pressure on me to talk and i could mostly just make yes/no/questioning noises and any time i wanted to say a sentence i could take my time with it because there were literally instruments in my mouth??? absolutely no pressure for me to say something just to say something it was heaven oh my god. i take back every joke i've ever made about dentist office conversational logistics. IDEAL MODE.

to start off, we know that his teeth are always perfectly straight and white (if they aren’t drawn like blender blades [incorrect]), so there’s two ways this could go.

1. his teeth never get dirty and therefore he doesn’t need to take care of them. he can just lick any blood or residue off and call it a day.

2. he sees a dentist in the dreaming regularly (absolutely cannot use a human dentist) and keeps them in perfect shape the same way a human would.

or he just has like veneers or something idk

this nightmare country cover is most likely a one off gag but if we take it seriously, which I am known to do, it would imply that he actually does have to take care of his teeth. also I just like the idea of him having his own official toothpaste.

it’s highly unlikely for him to ever have any problems such as cavities or gum disease so while yes he can bleed and feel physical pain, going to the dentist would not be painful for him. I can see how it would be emotionally taxing, though. he doesn’t like to show his eyes and having someone poke around inside of them would probably send him over the edge. ESPECIALLY if it’s second Cori we’re talking about here. the bitch will bite if he feels threatened. all the more reason to have a dreamkin dentist who can take care of something like that.

y’know how dentists always try to talk you when they already have their tools in your mouth? that’s not a problem for him because he has three. professional yapper he can’t be stopped
